Super Quick Candied Orange Zest really give a nice pop of flavor to baked goods. I love the candied Orange zest paired with the Chocolate Must Have Brownies on this site.
2 large Oranges
1/2 cup sugar

In a small saucepan bring about cup of water to a boil. Zest the oranges, take a vegetable peeler and peel the orange rind off carefully not to get the white parts of the fruit. When you have both oranges peeled, cut into thin strips. add the orange strips to the boiling water stir and let simmer 5mins. Drain, reserving 1/4 cup of the water from the oranges, rinse under cold water and repeat rinse. add 1/2 cup sugar and the 1/4 cup reserved water back into the small saucepan over medium heat. Whisking the sugar until it has dissolved. add blanched orange zest and let simmer for 3 minutes. Transfer zest and liquid into the jar, allow to cool with lid off then place lid on and chill overnight. zest last up to 2 months chilled. Be sure to place zest on paper towel before using on top of brownies or cakes blot off excess liquid.
Add the zest to brownie and cake tops.
Add chopped zest to batters.
Use the liquid to flavor batters and beverages.
